Luxury Tropical Resorts that
cater to You
Recognized world wide as the
site of both the “Blue Lagoon” films, this 5 Star resort is designed for
couples who enjoy romantic picnics for two, intimate moonlit dinners at
seaside, horseback riding at dawn, or relaxing and sensual massages.
Although Turtle only accommodates 14 couples at any given time, there is
a staff of over 150 people on the island to provide guests with an
experience of a lifetime. Since it's opening in 1980, Turtle Island has
been hailed as one of Fiji's (and the world's) finest resorts. |
 |
Accommodation
|
Turtle Island is a
private, remote, desert island idyll, with no cars, TVs or
telephones, but 14 gorgeous beaches and accommodation for just
28 guests. All 14 bures or cottages are located along the famous
“Blue Lagoon.”
Special attention has been paid to the overall design of our
bures, combining modern building techniques with traditional
Fijian craftsmanship. Much of the timber used in the bures was
grown on Turtle Island. The roof is covered with thatch,
intricately woven both inside and out. Guests tells us that our
vaulted ceilings are the most beautiful they have ever seen, and
that they fall asleep gazing upward.
A generous expanse separates your bure from the next. You can
sip a cocktail, watch the sunset over the Blue Lagoon, and feel
that you have your own slice of paradise. |
 |
|
 |
Bures and Villas
|
During your stay on
Turtle, home will be one of only 14 “bures”, traditional, two
room, thatched cottages built by Fijian craftsmen. Each is
spacious, comfortable and filled with light. Hand woven 21-foot
vaulted ceilings arch over the wheat coloured walls and mellow
wood floors. Louvered windows open to the tranquil waters of the
Blue Lagoon. Gentle trade winds carry the scent of tropical
blossoms through the breezy interiors.
|
 |
Each luxurious bure
provides separate sleeping, dressing and bathing areas. Every
Grand bure has a king- size bed, an extensive dressing area, a
writing desk, walk-in double shower, a jacuzzi, an outdoor
shower and a verandah with queen- size day bed for napping in
the sun-flecked shade of the palms. The Deluxe bure has a
king-size bed, bath with two showers, a rattan furnished sitting
room, and a writing desk. All bures include a bar stocked with
drinks and fresh tropical fruit, Bose CD players, Pure Fiji body
products. |
 |
Vonu Point
|
Vonu Point, our
premium bure, is a traditional, two-room, thatched cottage built
by Fijian craftsmen.
Spacious, comfortable
and filled with light, Vonu Point is elevated on the headland at
the Northern end of the beautiful Blue Lagoon beachfront and it
enjoys total privacy and seclusion and panoramic views over the
lagoon and the neighbouring Yasawa Islands. |
 |
Your nearest
neighbour is located 500 metres away on the main beach. Your
outside area includes a day bed and a hammock to enjoy the best
vistas on Turtle Island. A further beach area is also reserved
on the main beach exclusively for the Vonu Point guests.
This bure is our most popular and must be reserved well in
advance to avoid disappointment.

beaches or your desire to walk down the aisle to the voices of a

|
 |
Grand Beach Weddings
|
Imagine celebrating
that special day in an exotic tropical setting; meeting your
loved one on a white, sandy beach with a warm breeze stirring
the air. On Turtle, weddings are special events, and some of our
guests' fondest memories are of the delightful Fijian wedding
ceremonies held at sunset on the shores of the famous Blue
Lagoon.
The bride and groom
may dress in traditional Fijian wedding attire made especially
for them by the Turtle Island staff members. The cloth is tapa,
made from tree bark and hand-painted with traditional Fijian
symbols in tan, brown and black. All of the guests, along with
the bride and groom, wear garlands of fresh, fragrant flowers
around their necks.
The trumpeting of
conch shells announce the bride's arrival on the wedding raft,
called a billi billi. Drums beat ceremonial rhythms as the bride
disembarks and is escorted to her groom by two Fijian
attendants. As they approach the Fijian chapel, they are
heralded by a Fijian choir.
After the ceremony,
everyone participates in a Kava ceremony, an ancient tradition
in honour of the bride and groom. The newly-weds are then
carried onto the billi billi for their return to the wedding
feast or lovo, typically consisting of roast pork, fresh seafood
and other local delicacies.
No wedding is
complete without a cake, so our staff bakes and decorates a cake
of your choice. Then, under the soft glow of lantern light,
guests and staff alike raise their glasses in a toast to the
happy couple and continue to celebrate with everyone enjoying
traditional Fijian festivities.
Turtle weddings
aren't just for newly-weds. They're also a lovely way to renew
vows. Our staff will make all the preparations, from the wedding
clothes to the wedding feast.
Methodist clergy are
available from neighbouring island missions, along with the
Island's own staff choir. Our guests are also invited to
participate in such a joyous event. |
 |
To assure that
everything proceeds smoothly, plan to arrive in Nadi on a
weekday, at least three days before your wedding day. This
allows time to obtain your license before coming to Turtle, time
to get acquainted with staff members and fellow guests, for the
feast to be planned and wedding garments prepared.
DVD, digital
photography of the wedding, and Memory Book of your stay are
presented to each bride and groom.

The Ultimate Romantic
Hideaway
|
Described by Conde
Nast Traveler as hyper-romantic, Turtle Island offers everything
from traditional Fijian wedding ceremonies to French Champagne
gourmet picnics on one of the island's private beaches for the
celebration and rekindling of true love and romance.
Turtle was chosen as the site of both "Blue Lagoon" movies: the
1980 version starring Brooke Shields, and the 1949 version
starring Jean Simmons.
As the Hollywood version of Paradise come to life, Turtle Island
is a fortuitous and unique example of life imitating art! Today,
the world famous resort caters to couples exclusively, except
for a few designated "family weeks" each year. |
|
Turtle's ambience and
amenities are designed for couples who enjoy each other's
company - such as romantic picnics for two, intimate moonlit
dinners at seaside, horseback riding at dawn, relaxing and
sensual massages.
These pleasures are enhanced by the warmth and gracious
pampering of Turtle's Fijian staff, who delight in sharing their
island.
 |
 |
Activities
|
The island is blessed
with 14 white, powdery beaches. Some are adjacent to the living
and dining areas, and some are totally isolated, bounded by high
cliffs or set within a cove. Your time on Turtle is your own,
whether you want to stroll the beaches, wade in the turquoise
waters, cruise on one of our sailboats or snorkel or scuba with
a Fijian guide.

Couples can reserve a
beach for the day and enjoy a romantic picnic where a luncheon
of lobster and champagne, or whatever you prefer, will be
dropped off for you by boat. Lose your worldly inhibitions. Read
a book. Sip champagne. Work on an all-over tan. |

The Blue Lagoon is as
clear as new blown glass and offers spectacular displays and
diversions. Living coral reefs of blue, green and yellow, called
“fringing reefs” ring the island and are home to colorful
galaxies of fish, from lion to angel to butterfly fish. Squid
and octopi live here too, as well as sea cucumbers, rays and
crabs. |
 |
Don snorkel gear and
go eye-to-eye with a green or hawksbill turtle. On soft
star-studded nights, the breezes carry the scent of frangipani
down to the sea’s edge and the waves turn green - gold with

their very knowledgeable divers. |

globe. The expert windsurfing instructors here on the island

Sailing
Gaff-rigged Sunfish
sailboats are on hand to help you explore the Blue Lagoon and
Turtle Island shoreline.
Go it alone, with
your partner or let one of our experienced Activity Staff join
you for a fun-filled adventure.
Tropical breeze will
fill your sails and send you on a peaceful journey of
discovery. As one of only 14 couples on the Island you will
soon discover that the Blue Lagoon is an exclusive playground
for yourself and the other guests. There are no day-trippers or
other tourists to spoil your enjoyment of this amazing marine
park.
 |
Sea Kayaking
A selection of one
and two man kayaks are available for your use, including “glass
bottom” vessels that allow coral viewing during your paddle.
Explore the Blue
Lagoon or venture around nearby covers. Circumnavigating the
island is only possible on the full tide because of the reefs
and the fact that there can be no water in the channel on the
northern end of the island.
Lots of exciting
kayaking adventures await you in the South Pacific, and we're
looking forward to having you venturing off with your paddles
through the blue water to some of the nearby islands.
The bay is protected from the weather, so conditions are optimal
(and safe!), and the destinations couldn't be more beautiful.

Fishing - Deep Sea
|
The sturdy 25'
runabout with a massive 225 Yamaha four-stroke 450 HP engine is
Turtle Island's well equipped and comfortable fishing boat. The
deep-sea boat goes out six days per week. Fishing trips are
usually in the early morning, last between 4-6 hours and are
dependent on weather conditions.
The runabout trolls
the reefs located around Turtle Island and neighboring islands.
Catches include fish such as yellow fin tuna, trevally, wahoo,
Spanish
mackerel, mahi mahi, barracuda, shark, skipjack tuna, marlin,
rainbow runner, and the occasional sailfish.
An 80 lb. yellow fin
Tuna was recently caught on an expedition by a couple of our
guests. When the boat arrived back at the island, our chefs
quickly arranged for the fish to be served "sashimi" style for
lunch and then prepared exquisite tuna steaks for dinner, for
all the guests to enjoy. |
 |
Fly-Fishing
Miles of unspoiled shoreline, pristine shallow reefs
and an abundant fish population with little fishing pressure
combine to make the Yasawas a perfect fly-fisherman's paradise.
Target species include bonefish, trevally, coral trout and red
sea bass. Turtle Island does not provide instruction for this
sport but does arrange day trips through a local guide on a
neighboring island (There is an additional charge for this
service). Turtle Island suggests that guests bring their own
equipment and be sure to tell your Turtle Client Manager about
your fly-fishing intentions. |
 |
Sunset Cruise
Glide towards a
shimmering horizon during a magnificent sunset cruise on our
cruise boat. Our staff will entertain you with traditional songs
and dance as you sip cocktails with our guests.
Be sure to bring your
camera as the Turtle Island sunset rarely disappoints.
The sunset cruise is
the perfect way to end another day on Turtle Island before
sitting down to a magnificent feast at one of our famous
barefoot dinner parties.
 |
Land Based Activities
|
The landscape and
activities available on the 500-acre island are extraordinary
and varied. Smooth white sands and calm waters on the leeward
side contrast with the rugged black volcanic cliffs and rolling
waves on the windward side. Dense tropical forests open to
grassy highlands with breathtaking vistas of the turquoise sea
and the surrounding islands. |
 |
Lush green mangroves
with thick, twining roots border groves of coconut palms gently
swept by trade-winds that keep the island pleasant and balmy all
year-round. You can hike canopied jungle trails, climb a
challenging hill, explore acres of golden grassland on horseback
or practice the fine art of doing nothing at all.
When you are one of
only 14 couples on Turtle Island you will never wait in line for
an activity. Our experienced staff are happy to assist with
every request and can indulge your tropical island dreams. |
 |
Horse Riding
|
Regardless of your
level of expertise, you’ll find one of our horses just right for
the ride along the trails and beaches. A good selection of
saddles ensures a comfortable ride.
As we tailor all of our activities just to suit you, sunrise
horse riding is reserved exclusively for you and your partner on
your chosen day. |
 |
Typically, our rides
begin in the dark, just prior to sunrise, our horseman will show
you the way to Long Beach where our staff would have prepared a
selection of pastries and fruits. As a couple, you will be left
to watch the sunrise whilst sipping champagne. Later, our
horseman will return to show you more of the island.
|
Bike Riding
Mountain bike around
the island. Paths lead into the spectacular tropical rainforest
dominated by raintree, tavola, Noko Noko and mahogany groves.
Choose between a
leisurely ride to one of the private beaches or push yourself a
little further to the top of Mt Ford where you can enjoy
incredible views of Turtle, the Blue Lagoon and our neighbours
in the Yaswa chain of islands.
The trails around
Turtle are marked by vibrant red hibiscus which is a beautiful
reminder that you are on the right track.

Running, Walking, Hiking
Many excellent trails, from
easy to moderate, offer the runner, hiker or those just out for a
stroll, plenty of wonderful opportunities. With 500 acres to roam, all
trails boast spectacular South Pacific scenery, providing striking
views. Enjoy the native rain forests, the verdant hills and the
fascination of the mangroves. Feel free to explore. Our staff are always
delighted to guide you or you can venture out on your own.
Turtle Island has been
awarded for our commitment to sustainable tourism and you will discover
as you explore the Island all that makes this couples-only resort not
only a unique luxury destination but a responsible member of our
community. |
 |
Picnics
|
Turtle Island is a
place for the young at heart; a retreat for couples who seek a
renewal of the spirit and a return to the innocence of falling
in love for the very first time.
Whether you're in the
market for an all inclusive private island wedding, a
honeymooner looking for the perfect place to begin your life
together, celebrating a special occasion or just trying to
escape from the world.
Enjoy a romantic
picnic where a luncheon of lobster or other island delicacies
will be dropped off for you by boat or cart. |
 |
Lose your worldly
inhibitions. Read a book. Sip Champagne. Work on an all-over
tan. Picnics are a favourite among Turtle Island guests.
You may reserve one of our 14 private beaches, 8 of which are
used regularly for picnics, or settle on the beach just outside
your private "bure". Either way, you are sure to enjoy a
sumptuous picnic lunch complete with your choice of wine,
Champagne or other favourite beverage in our tropical paradise. |
 |
Island and Garden tours
Part of our orientation tour
is a journey by electric cart around the island. Behind the main
compound is an orchid house, and an impressive four acre organic garden
where 90 per cent of the resort's herbs, fruit and vegetables are
produced.
In the garden there are long, neat rows of carrots, spinach, corn,
tomatoes, four types of lettuce, five types of bean, plus coriander,
chives, mint, lemon-grass, bananas, melons, papayas, limes, mangoes and
pineapples.
Turtle Island is truly a tropical paradise in every sense. Once denuded
of its lush rainforest and vegetation Richard Evanson and the rest of
the Turtle Family have planted thousands of trees. The trail around the
Island is marked by vibrant red hibiscus so guests can explore at their
leisure without getting lost. |

Massage Therapy
|
This unique healing
massage has been handed down through Hawaiian families for
generations and is profoundly healing and nurturing. Lomi-Lomi
can be given by a single practitioner or with two practitioners
working together- double the bliss!
The Hawaiian people
view all aspects of the body as one and believe that the
physical, mental, emotional and spiritual are all part of the
"whole self".
Thus the intent of
lomi-lomi is to free energy flow by releasing stress and tension
in the body and restore balance and harmony to mind, body and
spirit by working deeply through these levels.
When a lomi-lomi practitioner touches your body, it is with
total respect, non-judgment, compassion and love. |
 |
Different parts of
the body may be massaged at the same time, and full and
under-body strokes are used to bring the body back into balance
and instil a deep sense of peace, harmony and well-being.
The massage is given in a fluid, rhythmic motion working with
the body’s natural flow and rhythm. Thus lomi-lomi is also known
as "Loving Hands" or "Temple Style" massage.
At completion of the massage, you will feel blissfully relaxed,
with the benefits of the healing continuing long after the
massage has ended.
 |
Every guest
receives a complimentary half hour Lomi Lomi Massage. |
You're welcome to
organise additional massages during your Turtle Island vacation
at the rate of $60 per hour (US dollars). |
 |
Fiji People and Culture
|
The Fijian culture is
very much alive on Turtle Island, and when you visit, you live
and play alongside Fijians. Unchanged and unaffected by modern
technology, Fijians are taught from an early age that family and
friends are the most important things in life. From this warm
and ancient culture comes a new sense of community and a
nurturing, teaching, funloving staff with a great South Pacific
sense of humor. |
 |
You’ll find them
eager to share their musical heritage, explain the sea life and
coral, demonstrate the medicinal uses of trees and plants found
in the forest, teach you to windsurf or take you fishing. They
will spoil you with their hospitality or, if you prefer, leave
you to savor your solitude. |
