Fish
populations boom in new Marine Park Sanctuary.
The declaration of the home reef and Tokoriki resort
lagoon as a traditional Marine Park Sanctuary have
seen many more fish making this area their home. For
guests at Tokoriki they can snorkel and dive in this
protected area and see for themselves the positive
impact the sanctuary has had on the environment. The
declaration of the marine park sanctuary means no
one can fish, anchor, harvest clams or remove coral
from the area.Beautiful, pristine diving
just 10 minutes from your room.
Imagine stepping out of your door, onto a dive boat
and into some of the world's most pristine waters
within 10 minutes. You'll find yourself surrounded
by 1,200 species of fish from exotic Fijian locals
to fast-moving friendly sharks. There's rainbow hued
coral gardens and towering pinnacles waiting to be
discovered. Whatever your diving skill, there's a
dive that's right for you. |

Around the Village |
 |
|
The best and yet
most challenging aspect of Fiji to promote is the
amazing people! Tokoriki's motto is Arrive as a
Visitor. Leave as a Friend.
Our staff will greet you with songs and smiles and
become one of the most special aspects of your stay
with us. Their genuine hospitality is rarely seen in
the world today and their service is warm and
attentive without being intrusive. Whether it's on
the volleyball court, around the kava bowl or on a
trip to the village, the Fijian culture, hospitality
and endless charm will captivate you. |

Tokoriki is in the Fijian
Archipelago in the heart of the fabled South Pacific. The
archipelago is comprised of 330 magnificent islands spread
out over more than a million square kilometres of tropical
ocean. The idyllic islands of Fiji are a 6 hour flight from
Honolulu, a 4 hour flight from Sydney and a 3 hour flight
from Auckland.
Thirty five kilometres off the west coast of Nadi
(pronounced "Nandy") - Fiji's international gateway -
Tokoriki is the northern most island in the Mamanuca group
and borders the famous Yasawa Islands. Away from the hustle
and the bustle of the other larger island resorts in the
group, you have the feeling of being on your own private
island retreat when you are here. |

Tokoriki Island
Resort is proud to be a founding member of the
Mamanuca Environment Society (MES). As a founding
member of the MES, Tokoriki Island Resort is
committed to improving and protecting the local
environment through awareness and education. Our
General Manager, Erin McCann is the Co-Chairman of
the society. The Mamanuca Environment Society was
founded in March 2003 and currently employs a full
time Marine Biologist/Project Manager. The Project
Manager collects data, monitors the reef and marine
systems in our area, liaises with the local
stakeholders and spends a great deal of her time
educating the school children and adults in the
local communities of the Mamanucas in best practice
guidelines and ways to improve the sustainability of
the surrounding environment.
It is a fact that human impact is a contributing
factor to the degradation of the environment.
Through awareness, education and a huge investment
in our infrastructure, Tokoriki hopes that we can
improve, if not reverse any detrimental effects that
the resort and its guests have on the beautiful
surroundings we have here in the Mamanuca Islands of
Fiji. |

Environment
(16/03/2005)
The Mamanuca Environment Society (MES)has
attracted the attention of HRH Prince Charles. On
his recent visit to Fiji, Prince Charles made time
in his busy itinerary to meet all of the Executive
Committee members of MES. Tokoriki's owner, Andrew
Turnbull and outgoing General Manager Erin McCann
had the great privilege of meeting HRH. Prince
Charles also took time to meet the school children
who are benefitting from MES's environmental
programs. |

Work in the Community
|
|
|
| In
the Community |
 |
|
| MES contribute to
the community in many different ways. From programs
in the Mamanuca schools to clean up campaigns in the
local villages. Tokoriki Island Resort supports MES
through its founding membership, but Tokoriki's
guests are also major contributors to the society.
We thank all of our guests who have made donations
these past two years. Your donations will allow all
members of the Mamanuca communities to learn more
about, improve and sustain their valuable ecosystems
for years to come. |
