INTRODUCTION
To maintain your
privacy, we have built only 15 bures on the island. Extremely
comfortable for two people; very comfortable indeed for a small
family. Each bure is set right on the water's edge. As you cross the
patio and enter your "island home" you will be impressed by the
height of the ceiling, soaring 27 feet above you. Paradoxically, in
addition to offering you all modern conveniences including
electricity, en-suite, refrigerator and round-the-clock hot water,
your bure has been constructed in the traditional Fijian "Chiefly"
style. This manner of building dates back many centuries and has
survived through the passing on of the many craft skills involved
from family to family, father to son.
All ensuites include an outside private courtyard. |
Bures
We have three types of bures on Toberua. All are oceanfront. The
standard beachfront bure will have a queen size bed, and one or two
single beds an indoor outdoor en-suite, tea and coffee making
facilities and a mini bar fridge. The large sundecks have the
appropriate lounging furniture and you will find a hammock strung up
in the trees beside you. All rooms have electronic safes.
The Deluxe
Bures are all Oceanfront and have a queen size bed and up to three
singles. rollaways are also available. All the above amenities are
included.
The premium bures contain one king size bed, some
a single as well, along with the above amenities and are situated on
the main swimming beach.
The twenty seven foot high roofs in the bures are
traditional and offer cool fan assisted un-refrigerated air to
ensure you are always comfortable. |
 |

Our
specialties include island cuisine, seafood fresh from the ocean and
continental dishes supplemented by a selection of locally grown
tropical fruits and organic vegetables from our own gardens. We also
have a full bar service with a wide selection of Australian, New
Zealand and California wines.
Meals are usually eaten outside, especially in the evenings, when
they are taken under the stars. You'll hear the beating of the lali
(Fijian drum) when the chef is ready to tempt you to our island
cooking. Waitresses will bring you the menu wherever you are to take
your lunch and dinner orders and complimentary morning and afternoon
tea is served outside the bar. Nothing quite equals candles on snowy
linen, stars above and gentle guitars accompanied by the murmur of
the ocean to make mealtimes occasions to remember for ever.
We
intentionally keep our menus international in flavor but will also
offer you a choice of many intrinsically Fijian taste temptations,
together with others drawn from Fiji's Indian and Chinese
communities. Nature has surrounded us with a bounteous sea and we
obtain our fresh sea foods from local fishermen who bring their
catches right to the beach (as do many of our guests as well).
Crayfish, prawns (in season), lobster and a myriad of unique
crustacean provide irresistible attraction at the table - as do
constant supplies of luscious tropical fruits.
Our Toberua Serenaders will gently fill your nights with music as
you enjoy your meals and it may not surprise you that it is the
Fijian custom for ladies to ask gentlemen to dance!
Dining alone in your bure is no problem, just say so and your
meals will be brought to you there. If you have young children we
prefer they eat an early dinner. To join with friends for dinner
parties just ask when your order is being taken. |
|
At
Toberua we have a unique menu system. Our Chefs prepares daily
luncheon and dinner menus with no two menus ever the same. For lunch
and dinner, three courses are offered. Our Chefs Malakai and Tavita
will offer you delectably different meal choices every day. We will
also create special meals for people with dietary requests. Here are
a few of the likely things you will find on the daily menu's to
tempt your palate while you relax in paradise.

FISHING
Fishing (complimentary)
Tackle and lines are available at the marina and an experienced
fisherman will accompany you almost any time you feel like it. We
have rods and reels available - simply ask Tui at the marina or see
the office to arrange a time. At the moment our current record is a
31kg. Saqa (Trevelli), but the record is being challenged regularly.
Game Fishing (charge)
Weather permitting we go outside the reef in search of a variety of
game fish. Species found outside the reef are Marlin, Mahi mahi,
Tuna, Wahoo, Walu, Giant Trevalli, and the occasional sailfish. We
use Penn International reels with 24 or 37kg line. |
DIVINGThe Toberua Passage, within minutes of Toberua Island, offers a wide
variety of diving spots from coral heads to 60 foot walls and cracks
suitable for both novice and experienced divers. A large array or
colourful coral, fish and shells make for excellent underwater
photography as our diving is recognized as some of the best in Fiji. Toberua has its own resident PADI Dive Instructor and we are able to
offer a full range of courses from Introductory Resort dives through
to Dive Master qualification. We can also arrange for the necessary
equipment for currently certified divers.
Dive Sites
Shark Reef
40 -70 feet Intermediate Shark Reef is the Home of many white tip reef sharks. This site has
many dramatic rocky coral overhangs, with some swim through’s and a
giant coral arch- way. You can expect to see schooling Snapper and
the occasional sleeping turtle.
Cakautabu
20
-80 feet Beginner to Advanced
Cakautabu means" Scared reef' but to us it is a wonderful dive site.
The dive starts on a giant coral head and moves onto a shallow wall.
This site also offers a small cave and a swim through that ends on a
beautiful coral garden. This site is home to many white tip reef
sharks, turtles, batfish and eagle rays.
Three Corals
30
-45 feet Beginner to Advanced This
is a nice shallow dive that has three gigantic coral heads. You will
have the chance to see all types of fish as well as a resident green
sea turtle.
The Playground
20
-60 feet Advanced This is one of our favorites. This is truly a "Playground" for
divers offering all that is exciting. Home to a large number of reef
sharks, morays and turtles. Many swim throughs and overhangs,
caverns and caves. If that is not enough, the site is littered with
many beautiful seashells.
Sea
Food Buffet
40 -80
feet Intermediate Seafood Buffet is a miniature version of Bird Island reef. This site
is a shallow slope that has an abundance of amazing coral. The site
is also filled with hundreds of different reef fish.
The Canyons
40
-100 feet Intermediate to Advanced
Huge
coral heads at this site form interesting canyons that the divers
can explore. Depth at this site varies so you can spend your time
looking at the beautiful coral and reef fish at the tops of the
coral heads, or if you like you can go deeper and explore the
exciting coral canyons.
The
Wreck
20
-80 feet Beginner to Advanced
In 1920
the 300+ Foot freighter "Cardinia" went down in shallow water. The
beginning of the dive is spent exploring the vast wreck. Then you
will go onto a maze of coral heads that offers two fun swim throughs.
You will get the chance to see some huge tabletop coral as well as
white tip reef sharks and the occasional eagle ray.
The Big Tree
40-
80 feet Intermediate
This is
a site that offers beautiful coral as well as glimpses of lobsters
and Fire Dart fish.
Bird Island Reef
40
-90 feet Advanced This is a coral lover’s delight. The reef has a amazing amount of
coral that stretches as far as the eye can see. You can also expect
to see white tip reef sharks, walu, baracuda, tuna and turtles.
Golden Circle
30 - 90 feet Advanced This is in the Motoriki Passage and is full of critters large and
small due to the currents often encountered here. The boss lost his
wedding ring here, hence the name of this golden spot. Trigger fish,
turtles, white tips and if you're lucky maybe an old wedding ring! |
TRIPS
We have a number of boat trips to various
locations, Nasamila Mangrove Forest, Picnic Island, Levuka (the
old capital) and Bird Island.
Nasamila
Mangrove Forest (1/2 day trip - no charge) The journey to Toberua follows the Navaloa River and then Kaba
Point. The river banks are covered with mangrove forests which
abound the Rewa Delta. Nasamila is a small isolated village which
can only be accessed by a small tributary of the Navaloa River. This
tributary winds its way through some of the largest mangrove forests
in Fiji where all three varieties of mangrove exist. The tour takes
you through thick forest where you can view the mangroves by open
boat and learn the important role mangroves play in preserving
coastal areas providing a breeding ground for many types of fish and
crabs, starting a food chain that provides a substance living for
many villages. The tour has two options enabling visitors to walk one way through
rural farming countryside and boat one way through the mangroves or
boat both ways. Duration of the tour is 2-3 hours and coincides with
high tide. All tours are accompanied by a local knowledgable guide.
Picnic Island (charge) We arrange regular picnics to the uninhabited white sand cays
Nasautabu, where you can enjoy a full day's snorkeling, swimming and
sun bathing with good company and beautiful food.
Levuka (charge) Visit the old capital of Fiji. A trip back in time. Visit the many
historical sites in Levuka, lunch at the Whales Tale Cafe and
explore this old town. Yes ladies there are shops here that will
amaze you! This trip includes an historical walking tour and a swim
on the way home. |
Snorkeling (complimentary)
Snorkeling trips to the Toberua Passage are daily and snorkeling
from the island is good at any time. Masks, flippers and snorkels
are all available for no charge from the marina bure. |
GOLF
The Toberua golf course was founded in 1985 by well known Australian
artist Ken Done. The course is a 9 hole par three playable only at low
tide. The longest hole is 180 metres - the shortest measuring in at 90
metres. A wedge or a sand wedge is provided which will be used for
driving, chipping and putting. Holes are a six inch diameter circle
drawn in the sand.
The local rules are unique.
 | Snakes may be lifted and dropped two club lengths without
penalty. |
 | It is absolutely forbidden to wear long socks and shorts. |
 | Guests out walking shall be treated as hazards. |
 | The sea shall be treated as casual water and a ball may be
retrieved and dropped without penalty, no closer to the hole. |
 | Taking the game seriously shall incur a shout at the bar. |
The annual
Toberua Open is staged between Christmas and New Year every year.
We also have a nine hole path putting course.
Both courses are complimentary. |

Music
HOT NEWS....the TOBERUA SERENADERS have a new CD out called FIJI ROAD.
The fabulous Toberua Serenaders will entertain you
every evening (except Sundays) with both traditional and modern
unplugged music and song.
Most nights they are joined by others on the staff
who, like the band, love to entertain.
In the early
evening you may find them outside your bure serenading you before
dinner.
We are often joined on Sunday evenings by the
children of Dromuna and Vitani villages with some very entertaining and
spirited singing.
You may also witness our staff performing impromtu
Meke's (Fijian Dance and song) from time to time and of course the
occasional snake dance! |

Weddings
As more people are looking to get away from
the traditional wedding that includes large numbers of family and
friends, we find more requests for weddings to be held at Toberua.
Toberua offers an ideal location for a Fiji wedding. Privacy, no more
than 30 guests. You can book the island. The setting - on the beach, by
the pool, or among our gardens or our special wedding bure. The day is
yours.
Our weddings include a traditional tree planting ceremony, where you
get to plant a tree to commemorate your special day. A small carved sign
is placed beneath the tree for all to see.
As a starting point for making plans, a Toberua wedding covers the
Marriage License, Minister or Registrar, flowers (which include a
bouquet for the bride, flowers for the hair, salusalu for the bride and
groom and floral arrangements to decorate the chosen venue), and a
traditional wedding cake. The package also includes hair and make up for
the bride.
We offer complimentary champagne after the ceremony to toast the
couple, savouries for the guests and a tree planting ceremony.
Photography of the complete ceremony and its following activities can
be arranged. Zoom Fiji offers 3 different
packages. The couple will receive a CD-rom of High Res photos to choose
their album shots from and the album will be supplied completed.
The day will conclude with a champagne wedding dinner for two.

Catholic Church requires that if you want a minister you will need a
