Wakaya
Cuisine: Philosophy Our aim at The Wakaya Club & Spa is
to awaken desire and heighten pleasure.
|
|
Fish from these bountiful
waters. Fruit from these laden trees, sweetened by the sun. Here,
you begin to remember that food is your connection to the earth as,
day by day, the bounty of the island nurtures your body and soothes
your soul.
On Wakaya, the notion of
locally grown organic food is a given. Your first day here, on the
way in from the airport, you’ll notice an abundance of lush gardens
and groves.
The Wakaya Club & Spa
specializes in Pacific Rim cuisine inspired by the island’s
plentiful resources. There is locally grown venison and pork, and
shellfish and fish drawn from the Koro Sea. Pacific green lobster,
shrimp, swordfish, tuna, wahoo, waloo and mahi mahi all show up on
the daily changing menu.
There are organic herbs,
lettuces and vegetables planted by moon phase. And fresh fruit
ripened in season by the Wakaya sun; avocado branches so heavy with
fruit they touch the ground; and bushels of mangoes, kumkuats and
guava.
Here, dining is a
distinct pleasure, prepared in a state-of-the-art kitchen by four
Fijian chefs (and two pastry chefs) who understand the simplicity
that underlies sophisticated cuisine. Every meal includes wonderful
choices, and the kitchen staff is adept at accommodating dietary
requirements without compromising flavor or presentation.
The cost of your
meals—including alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages—is included in
your stay, so you never have to worry about signing a bill or
looking at prices while you’re enjoying Wakaya's fine cuisine.
In addition to the
extraordinary local Chefs, The Wakaya Club & Spa has an
International Guest Chef program that brings highly acclaimed talent
into the Wakaya kitchen for exciting intervals of creative
collaboration resulting in many festive occasions of exciting
dining. |
|
Dining
Options The
morning dive has awakened a ravenous appetite. Weaving through the
trunks of coconut palms comes the now familiar sound of lali drums,
letting you know that lunch is served.
At The Wakaya Club & Spa,
you may choose the intimacy of a table for two, or the company of
friends at a larger table. Evening after evening, the options are
wide open. While many Fijian resorts have a communal table, your
privacy is sacred at The Wakaya Club & Spa and seating is arranged
according to your wishes.
Breakfast and lunch are
served on the deck overlooking the lagoon, in the Palm Grove
Restaurant or in your bure, as you wish. Dinner is served in
the Palm Grove Restaurant, a majestic structure with its 60-foot
cathedral ceiling. |
|
Picnics
Just imagine: at your
whim, you can be taken to a private and secluded beach where you
find everything set for the most romantic picnic on the planet. We

when you are ready to beckon us for transport back to the Club.
Alternatively, we offer group picnic outings for you and your
friends, which comprise a barbecue lunch with musical accompaniment

Early in your stay, we
recommend that you explore the island with a guided Orientation Walk
to give you a taste of the wild natural beauty, the mystery and the
history that is Wakaya. In all, the island offers 15 miles of
roadway for hiking and jogging, leading to tropical forests, white
beaches and spectacular lookout points. The island’s southern tip is
a wildlife sanctuary rich with exotic fauna including feral horses,
deer, pigs and goat.
Golf, Tennis
and Croquet
The Wakaya Club & Spa has
its own 9-hole golf course, a small but challenging course with
dazzling views of Homestead Bay as it meanders through a 19th
century copra plantation. Our Wimbledon-Tex surfaced tennis court is
lighted for play during evening hours. The Wakaya Club & Spa pro
will be happy to give lessons or participate with you.
Our David Niven Croquet
Court is adjacent to the tennis court. We will be happy to instruct
you in the rules of the game, for your enjoyment. Equipment for
golf, tennis and croquet, including clubs, racquets, mallets and
balls, is available at the Sports Bure.
With so few people on the
island, court times and tee times are wide open. When would you like
to play?
Private
Beaches and Beach Picnics
Wakaya’s numerous private
beaches allow you to experience the South Pacific in its most
pristine state.
The Wakaya Club & Spa
