Taveuni Island Resort & Spa, Fiji
Taveuni, Jewel of the Pacific
Fiji has over 300 islands scattered in a group throughout the
Pacific Ocean. The islands are South of the Hawaiian Islands and
North of New Zealand and Australia. Here in Fiji, we are pollution
free and breathe the freshest, cleanest air and drink the purest
water in the world. Fiji enjoys an ideal South Sea tropical climate
thus making it a perfect holiday destination, especially for those
who wish to escape the severe Northern Hemisphere winters. With a
tropical climate, Taveuni’s average summer temperatures range
between 23º - 30ºC and the winter average temperatures are 20º -
26ºC. The rainy season is in summer (December to February). The
common language is English whilst the native tongue is Fijian and
the Indians speak Hindi.Getting Here

Island
trekking, remote villages, scenic golfOur guides will
arrange any cultural or adventure tours you wish to make.
From beautiful white sand beaches to lush green rainforests, one
will never cease to be amazed by the beauty of this island we know
as the “Garden Island of Fiji”- Taveuni.
Bouma Falls
Park
The BOUMA National Heritage Park is the ideal way for the
adventurous to spend a whole day, or a few hours, exploring.
Situated on the eastern side of the island, it is just a half hour
ride by taxi or bus from the resort.
Your day begins with an interesting drive past the remote
villages on this side of the island. There is a leisurely walk to
the first waterfall where lush vegetation and wild red and yellow
ginger create a colourful, unbelievably beautiful grotto. Take a
swim in the huge natural rock pool: dive under, into and behind this
large volume of cascading water.
You then climb up a pathway to the second and third waterfalls,
each unique and incredibly beautiful. Just before reaching the
second waterfall, there is a lookout to view the coast and the
islands of Matagi, Qamea and Laucala, and up into the high peaks and
ranges of Taveuni’s mountainous landscape. It is a 360 degree vista
of lush tropical beauty.
Your guide will carry your packed lunch and you can sit on the
rocks at the third waterfall to feed the prawns with crumbs from
your lunch.
Enjoy the sights and sounds of the rare tropical birds. Taveuni is
renown for the best bird life in Fiji, as there are no predators, so
one is bound to discover the abundance of bird life: Orange Dove,
Native Wood Pigeon, Taveuni Native Parrot and many more, plus rare
exotic palms. The joy for all is, that there are no known poisonous
or dangerous animals on land, therefore one can walk barefooted
through the pools and bush without a worry.
Lavena Coastal Walk
On the same coastal road, just ten minutes further on, is the
beautiful white sand beach of Lavena.
Here you can spend a whole day walking and exploring this amazing
coast, passing villages so remote, one wonders how the people
survive, where apart from a waterfall and the ocean there are no
facilities at all.
You will hike a natural trail through stunning coastal scenery
and enjoy the beauty of this wild foreshore. Your personal guide
will ensure you have a wonderful experience while showing you
amazing birds, and sea life. A swinging bridge crosses a deep river
canyon, then further on the trail swings inland up a river valley
where you can put on your bathing suit and swim to a cool deep pool
surrounded by high rock walls and lush rainforest. As you swim
deeper into the grotto, two beautiful waterfalls cascade. You can
climb up onto them and slide or jump into the deep water below.
This walk takes approximately one and half hours each way, and
you will need at least an hour or two to explore, relax and enjoy
the natural beauty of this area.
It is so easy to lose all sense of time and reality.
Instead of walking to the falls, it is possible to do the entire
journey from the park entrance to the waterfalls and back, by boat.
You will be provided with, tea by the villagers, on your return to
the park headquarters.
Wairiki Catholic Mission Church and the International Date Line
For a day on the land, take the West Coast Tour which begins with
a visit to the dateline (180 meridian) where you can stand in both
today, and yesterday. Taveuni Island was the first place to
experience the birth of the New Millennium, here the New Day begins!
Continue on to the Wairiki Catholic Mission School to view the
amazing architecture of the stone church built in 1907.
Go down to Soqulu Plantation for a game of golf or tennis,
followed by a beer at the Country Club bar.
If you are adventurous, you could venture to the southernmost tip
of Taveuni, to Vuna, where, when the tide is right you will see the
amazing blowholes in action.
On the way back, if you have a four wheel drive, you can go part
way up the road to Lake Tagimoucia which is an extinct volcanic
crater at the highest point of Taveuni. Although the lake is often
covered with cloud, the fact that the rare and exquisite Tagimouci
flower blooms here once a year, makes it well worth a visit at that
time.
On the way home, cool off at the Waitavala Natural Stone
Waterslides which is another of nature’s natural wonders.
Waitabu Marine Park
This area of Taveuni has recently been awarded the “International
British Airways Eco-Tourism Award”
The Waitabu Villagers will welcome you, and are proud of this
marine and cultural experience they have worked so hard to
establish.
The 5-hour visit is a marvellous cultural experience of Fijian
village life. The visit includes round trip transport, morning and
afternoon tea in the village, snorkelling in the marine reserve,
kava ceremony, local island dance and song, and to top it all; a
trip up the river on a bamboo “Bilibili” raft.
This is a 20-minute ride by taxi from the resort.
Vidawa Forest Walk:
This trip is also amazing. It takes a full day and you need to
love tramping and be fit.
You start at the Vidawa Village and hike through the spectacular
rainforest of this area. The walk concludes at the Bouma Falls where
you can relax and swim in the crystal clear, cool water.
You will enjoy the company of experienced, knowledgeable guides
on all these tours who will want to show you the flora and fauna,
and other wildlife. They will enchant you with tales of their rich
culture.
All of these
treks are sure to give you a day of great excitement, beauty and
adventure.
Further Activities
Horseback Riding, Golf & Tennis are also easily arranged for you
