| Island Cuisine |
Freshness,
innovation and the best of local and imported produce is included in our
Island cuisine. For example, experience the taste of fresh-caught fish
such as Island-caught Yellowfin Tuna served as sashimi (Japanese-style
raw fish) or poki (a Hawaiian raw fish recipe) at sunset on most days,
along with pacific oysters, prawns and a mix of other hors d'oeuvres.
Every Thursday night Namotu offers its guests a mix of traditional
Fijian cuisine (Lovo) where guest are also invited to participate in a
Kava ceremony with our Fijian staff.
For meat lovers, only the best quality lamb and beef is imported from
New Zealand and Australia. |
| Island Bars |
 There
are two bars on Namotu, stocking a selection of local and imported
beers, red and white wines, French champagnes, a variety of island
cocktails and local and imported spirits. We even have the best
quality Cuban and Dominican cigars. The Sunset Bar is
situated in the main Bure looking out over the lagoon, reef and
surf. This is the perfect venue to watch surfers, kiters and
breath-taking South Pacific sunsets from the huge deck and dining
area.
The Wahoo Bar is at the main pool and has incredible views
over the coral reefs. Enjoy a cool drink under a coconut tree while
seated on a semi-submerged seat or waist deep in the pool under
shade at the bar itself.

| Surfing |
  Namotu
is where surfers belong.
Great surfing venues surround the island - sample some of them:
Tide times and weather maps are displayed each day, including swell
prediction maps.
|
Namotu
Lefts
This left breaks all year from three feet to ten feet. The better months
are from November until April, when lighter winds prevail. Namotu lefts
peel off across the reef directly in front of our Sunset Bar and dining
area.
The lefts are also an excellent long-boarding wave on smaller days. When
swell conditions exceed six feet this break develops into a barrelling
and challenging wave. Regardless of swell size, Namotu lefts break
in deeper water. |
Swimming
Pools
This break is one of the prettiest locations to surf on this planet.
Pools breaks in crystal clear water from two feet to six feet. It
becomes a high performance wave over four feet, with crisp clean barrels
- a sweet safe wave for any surfer.Pools breaks all year, but
provides its best surfing between November and April, when north to
north-west winds are more common. |
Wilkes
Pass
You look directly into the barrel of Wilkes from our dining area and
Sunset Bar decking.Wilkes delivers a hollow right-hander that wraps
around a 180 degree reef with rides of up to two hundred meters. This
location can be extremely challenging, when sizeable, it breaks from
three to fifteen feet.
Wilkes breaks throughout the year but excels between November and
April, when light north-east winds are common, making for ultimate
surfing conditions.
Longer surfboards between 7' to 7'10" are recommended when swell
conditions exceed eight feet. |
| Kit and Wind
Surfing |
In
recent years Namotu has been proclaimed by world-class professional
sailboarders and kiters such as Robby Naish as being
unmatched around the globe for the conditions that these two sports
demand. In May 1997 the O'Neill Namotu Windsurfing Classic was held in
surf and wind conditions that the world's best competitors described as
being "ultimate" for such an event.
The east side of the island has flat, calmer water while the west
side delivers the perfect port tack through Namotu lefts when prevailing
south-east trades blow.
Namotu is a perfect training ground for both beginners and pro kite
and wind surfers. |
| Fishing |
 The
shallow lagoons and open blue water fishing grounds that surround Namotu
host some of the best angling available.
 Trolling
will catch you Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Marlin, Sailfish, Mackerel,
Trevally, and Mahi Mahi to name a few. For the serious
fisherman - tackle to bring: 30 - 50lb (15 - 25kg) outfits suit
best.
Lures - assorted skirted lures for the surface and larger minnows
eg: Rapalas and Meradas for deeper trolling. Medium to large in size
have proven best.
 Plug
casting or popping (whipping, as they call it in Hawaii or popping
as the Aussies know it) produces a huge range of toothy reef feeders.
Species include Red Snapper, Emperor, Coral Trout, Barracuda, Blue Fin
Trevally and the tackle-busting Giant Trevally. For the serious
fisherman - tackle to bring: a heavier-built threadline/egg beater
reel fully loaded with 30 - 50lb (15 - 24kg) braid line ie. Spider wire
and reasonably gutsy eight feet (2.5m) casting rod suit best.
Lures - any variety of plug or popper, medium to large in size
fitted with triple strength 4 - 7/0 treble hooks. nb. When popping the
reefs, braided line is best to help prevent fish cutting you off on the
coral heads.
 Saltwater
Fly-fishing over the shallow lagoons from our long boats produces a
variety of reef fish including many species of the Trevally and Emperor
family. For the serious fisherman - tackle to bring: light
to medium tipit for the lagoons and a heavier tipit for blue water
fishing.
Flys - larger saltwater flys bring best results.
 Spinning
or Casting chrome lures into Yellowfin shoals achieve a great result
using high speed retrieving reels and lures from 1 - 3 oz (28gms -
84gms). Skipjack, Rainbow Runners, Mackerel, Tuna and Mahi Mahi also mix
with the Yellowfin at times. |
| Diving |
The living coral
reefs surrounding Namotu Island have ultra-translucent water with
visibility often reaching thirty-five meters (about 120 feet). Whether
your passion is for snorkelling or scuba diving, our diving is
unbeatable.Snorkelling - Free Diving
Namotu has a spectacular coral garden that stretches from the
south-east shore of the island for over 400 metres. Water depth here is
only four feet to eight feet. This is a perfectly safe place for
beginners or the less experienced and is a visual symphony that is a
must for anyone staying on Namotu. Enquire at reception about our tow
dives over these coral gardens.
For the more experienced free diver, the north-west side of Namotu
offers a great drift dive, which runs along the edge of the reef that
drops into Wilkes passage.
There are over a dozen excellent dive sites in close proximity to
Namotu. Pinicle, wall, night and shark encounter dives can be organised
at your request. You will be escorted to your chosen dive site by
internationally certified divers.
All divers must be certified, so don't forget to bring your
certification card! You are advised to give our reception staff
twenty-four hours notice prior to your dive. Dive costs apply.
Introductory dives and Open Water Certification can be arranged
through our reception. |
