Weddings
at Maravu
...
an ideal location for an island wedding |
Maravu Plantation
Resort is one of the best places in the Fiji Islands for a wedding
or honeymoon. Although only a few miles from the local airport, the
first thing guests will notice is the complete sense of seclusion.
The resort is accessible only by a dirt road, and there are only 20
Bures (Bungalows) on the plantation, so a feeling of peace and
privacy pervades.
The second thing visitors will notice is the friendliness and
helpfulness of the staff, remarkable even by island standards.
Expect plenty of personal attention, and don't be bashful about
requests like laundry and ironing - the staff will bend over
backwards to accommodate your needs.
Maravu attracts all types of travellers, but specialises in
honeymoon and wedding packages. The lush setting makes an excellent
backdrop for a ceremony, and the secluded resort is the perfect
romantic place for a honeymoon. You'll need to notify the resort in
advance, naturally, if you wish to have a wedding ceremony performed
during your stay.
Maravu Plantation Resort is the ideal location for a wedding. The
ceremony can be held on the beach, in the gardens, by the pool or at
the sunset viewing area with panoramic views of the ocean and outer
islands. Maravu caters for a traditional Fijian wedding with full
Fijian costume and Fijian magiti (feast) or a traditional European
wedding with a simple or full mass. And if you like your ceremony
takes place in the jungle beside a tropical waterfall or in an
exotic village.
Maravu offers some of the most exotic wedding packages in the South
Pacific. From a more simple 'Tropical Package' over a 'Jungle or
Village Package' to a 'Deluxe Package', with all included what you
dream about being a 'tropical and exotic wedding'. The
non-plus-ultra is Maravu's 'Grand Fijian Deluxe Package', probably
the most luxurious, but for sure the most exotic wedding package you
can imagine. See yourself being brought on a bamboo raft across the
deep blue ocean with purple corals and on a throne under palm trees
and ferns to the place of your ceremony ... in the gardens of Maravu
or beside a tropical waterfall.
The ceremony may happen like this: You pick your favourite spot…on
the hilltop sunset gardens, the beach, the pool or somewhere else in
Maravu or in the jungle next to a romantic waterfall, in a village
or on a remote and deserted island beach. We will set up the place
of your choice with flowers, tapa decorations, seats and more. You
will be very involved helping us planning because we like to make
sure that its the right flowers, the right colours, the right
cake...The warriors and the best woman (that you may pick from one
of the staff) will walk you to the scene where your beloved with his
best man awaits you. Or you will be brought on the sea raft and the
throne… The minister will read out the lines that you repeat and
then you exchange rings. There is a choir of Fijians who will
serenade your wedding ceremony. If you like to read out something to
your beloved, that is a great idea and you will have time to do
that. After the ceremony is over, you may want to share a glass of
champagne and we will take your pictures if you like. We can use
your video and film the scene if you like. The professional
photographer that we use is recommendable because he will capture
everything in a beautiful way and never looks "stiff" but very
natural. And you get pictures from the whole wedding.
The Bandboys will perform a traditional Kava-Ceremony and serenade.
Then, its time to cut the wedding cake. You can do this in the
restaurant or wherever you have your wedding ceremony. We have a
baby Coconut tree that is for you and you may want to plant that and
put your names on a sign down so that this tree may grow with your
love.
At night, there will be a Meke Dance Performance for you with
traditional Fijian Dances and a Lovo-Dinner-Buffet with the
traditional specialities cooked in the underground oven with many
other dishes. Or you choice your very own menu which will be created
by our executive chef.
This is just the frame that we offer but you are free to change it
into anything you like best. For use of traditional Fijian costumes
of hand-decorated tapa cloth (handmade from pounded Mulberry bark)
there is an additional charge of USD 200 for the purchase.
A professional photographer and/or a videographer can be brought
from the main island. The cost for a basic photographer package is
USD 600 and a luxury photographer package is USD 1,200. Costs for a
videographer package is USD 1,200.
Inclusions please see below.
Basic Photographer Package: 3 rolls of negative film @ 36
pictures (108 pictures), development, prints. Extra costs: slides or

Diving
... Taveuni
offers world1class diving |
|

|
Swiss Fiji Divers is
located at Maravu's beach and offers diving with two boats. One is a
8 meter (26 foot) aluminum half cabin boat powered by outboard
engines for up to 8 divers. The second one is a 12 meter (38 foot)
aluminum catamaran powered by inboard jets for up to 12 divers.
Both boats are equipped with state of art equipment and offer high
quality/safety diving and Swiss Fiji Divers are eco orientated.
Taveuni, known as Fiji's Garden Island, is an
elongated emerald enclave (42 kilometers long and averaging 11
kilometers wide). The third largest island in the Fiji archipelago,
it is located just south of Vanua Levu (Fiji's second largest
island) across from the Somosomo Strait. Verdant and rugged, it
reaches a maximum height of 1241 meters at Mt. Uluigalau. The island
is volcanic in origin, which is the source of its fertile soil
making an ideal medium for the abundant flora.
Copious rainfall has produced some spectacular waterfalls and
combined with the fecund earth has created a thick carpet of
vegetation. Virgin rainforests cover the mountains, which are thick
with trees festooned with orchids and ferns. High in the center of
the island is Lake Tagimaucia, famous for the indigenous red and
white Tagimaucia flower. In addition to the prolific flora, Taveuni
is renowned by naturalists for its intact native bird population,
which includes parrots, a barking pigeon (Peale's pigeon which does
sound like a dog barking), and other rare species. Known in the
colonial days for its coconut plantations, today Taveuni is a
landmark for divers.
Beneath the surface of sea, in the coral reefs that fringe the
island, is an equally rich eco-system that rivals the bio-diversity
found on the surface. Fed by rich nutrients that emerge from the
depths of the Tongan trench, Taveuni is famous for its multitude of
tropical fish and pelagics. However, if there is one trademark or
signature species in the area, it is soft coral, which billows and
undulates in the currents. Soft coral comes in dramatic, sometimes
electric hues of orange, red, pink and white, which are fringed by
purple.
Protruding into the strait from the Vanua Levu side to about 3
kilometers from the shores of Taveuni is a magnificent reef, called
the Rainbow Reef. Here one can find one of the most famous dive
sites in the South Pacific, the Great White Wall. It is named
because of the unusual soft coral that inhabit the area. Starting at
a depth of about 15 meters and continuing to over 65 meters, this
underwater escarpment is covered with an almost luminescent white
coral tinged with lavender.
There are a great number of other dive sites sprinkled throughout
the area and new attractions are found all the time. It is estimated
that only 3% of the entire reef system in the Taveuni area has been
explored by divers and it's not unusual to see pelagics such as
dolphins, turtles, eagle rays and a number of species of shark.
Between the delightful indigenous population and the abundant sea
life, the visitor to Taveuni will not be disappointed.
The diving is mostly at the world famous Rainbow Reef - extending
approx. 20 Miles (30Km) into the Somosomo Strait between Taveuni and
Vanua Levu. The emphasis here is on spectacular soft corals and
teeming marine life as the tidal current provides perfect conditions
for incredible multi-coloured soft coral growth and magnificent hard
coral formations. The world renowned Great White Wall complements a
list of equally impressive sites including Annies Bommie, The Ledge,
Yellow Grotto, Jerries Jelly, Blue Ribbon Eel Reef and the Cabbage
Patch. The underwater terrain varies - a wide variety of drop-offs,
tunnels and rainbow coloured bommies. The dives are either from a
fixed spot or drift dives depending on the conditions. Depths vary
from 45 to 120 feet ( 15 to 39 meters). |

If you want to get in
touch with nature and the universe, spend some time down on the
beach.
A hammock is waiting for you so just take a short stroll from the
resort, pass over the only unsealed road and feel the golden sand
softly between your toes. Big old vutu trees are dropping
their pink and white flowers in the early morning hours and you can
smell their perfume in the air.
Sometimes you'll see a small fishing boat with villagers going past.
They will wave and smile at you calling out BULA!, the Fijian
word for 'Hello'.
Explore the local reefs snorkeling and meet all the colorful
tropical fish that live out there.
You may have a lucky day and see turtles and dolphins swimming
graceful in this warm and clear blue Pacific Ocean just in front of
you.
Maravu beach is a place of contrasts.
From deep green to endless blue.
From gently gliding kayaks to a game of Boca ball in the sand.
It's all here on this special island of tropical fun and leisure
where every day holds the excitement of something new and different
for you to enjoy. |

Fishing in the
Northern Territory of Fiji with Maravu & Makaira
Pristine and abundant waters surround your home base of Taveuni
Island, Fiji. All the various prime fishing habitats are here and
begin five minutes after launching, opening up to a vastness of
virtually virgin fishing grounds in every direction. You can expect
to find the Somosomo straits and outlaying areas to be dotted with
acres of birds and teeming baitfish, primarily skipjack, small
Yellow Fin Tuna, big eyed scads, regular scaddies, flying fish,
mackerel and ballyhoo. Within the day range, anglers can expect to
find all types of pelagic and reef fish as the topography is varied
with ribbon reefs, pinnacles, islands, channels, outer reefs,
straits and sandy flats. Every direction is full of possibilities
for an exciting, productive day of fishing of world-class trophies.
Depending on the anglers preference they can fish for Black Marlin,
Blue Marlin, Swordfish, Sailfish, Wahoo, Mahi-mahi, Yellow fin, Big
Eye Tuna and Albacore and depending on the fates they will catch
them. For the reef fisherman who enjoys casting there is Giant
Trevally, Blue fin Trevally, Barracuda, Walu, and Dogtooth Tuna. The
boats layout and beam allows the angler to choose his method of
fishing and is able to experience a varied day of fishing by
trolling for Big Game on the way to the sites for GT's. We can
accommodate all stand up fishing styles from fly to 130 lb class
test. For GT and Fly fishermen we suggest you bring your own gear,
as we are fairly confident there are some world records to be right
here. We support Tag and Release for Billfish and GT's that are
non-records.
Fiji is a sport fisherman's paradise. Fish, dive, or do both. You'll
rarely ever see another boat, and if you do, it's probably one from
the native villages nearby. If you've always wanted to fish in
pristine unspoiled waters, and only travel a few minutes from your
Resort to the perfect spot, then Maravu Plantation Resort is what
you've been looking for. After you've landed a 45 lb. Tuna the chef
will prepare it as a sashimi appetizer and serve it to you for
dinner that night. What could be better after an unforgettable day
of sport fishing than fresh fish prepared by world-class chefs!
