PADI Diving
Dive Crusoe’s is based at Crusoe’s Retreat, and is a Fiji diving
operation that reflects the uniqueness of the Crusoe’s Retreat setting.
There are more than 20 excellent dive sites within minutes of the resort.
The sites vary in standard from beginner to advanced, and the range of
marine life and corals is amazing. The dive sites we visit are in excellent
natural condition and are not crowded with large dive groups from other
resorts.
We typically take out groups of up to six divers but will take out
individuals as well for one on one diving with the dive master. For those
divers who also want to visit other dive sites around Fiji such as Beqa
Lagoon, we can arrange this for you through our resort tour desk.
Our highly qualified local dive crew is led by Don Woods, a Master Scuba
Diver Trainer and one of the most experienced divers in Fiji. Our aim is to
provide you with a friendly world class diving experience, in a beautiful
and safe location.
Our focus is on safety and ease of use. We have a well maintained, twin
engine, covered dive boat. The dive gear is in excellent condition and we
take pride in offering an enjoyable and professional PADI approved diving
experience.s
The combination of staying in this lovely Fijian resort with you own Bure
accommodation and diving with the Dive Crusoe’s team makes for a wonderful
tropical Fiji dive holiday.

courses are available, up to and including dive master.

DIVING
VITAWATAWA CHANNEL/ the way
across
Begins at a shallow mooring ( 6
metres ). Home to lionfish, giant cod, trumpetfish, schooling baitfish and
juvenile batfish. Turtles can be seen here. Moving with the flow;
anemonefish colonies brighten the rocks and are great for photography. As we
drop onto the channel floor at 12 to 14 metres white tip sharks and shovel
nosed rays can be seen. Traversing the channel we can see blue spotted rays
exploding from the sand. Barracuda and huge schools of unicorn fish appear.
Large titan triggerfish build copius nests in the channel floor.
The eastern side of the channel
is home to many resting leopard sharks and white tips are omnipresent. These
provide excellent photographic opportunities. As the current picks up bronze
whaler sharks can be seen. Huge nurse sharks lie in caves on this side of
the channel. The dive ends on the outside wall where myriads of small
colourful coral fish can be seen.
This is only one of the dives
available in Vitawatawa. The level of dives here range from novice to
advanced depending on profile and current.
SHARK POINT
A sheer wall running northwest
meets another wall running north. The current runs usually from south to
east. As the current strengthens so does the action.
Schools of tuna can suddenly surround the dive boat. A large hammerhead
shark can be spotted cruising lazily near the surface. A sudden splash will
alert you to a manta ray leaping……..and this is all before you actually
enter the water! Schools of barracuda hundreds strong can appear beside you
underwater. Trevally of all types abound here.
Schools of parrot fish and snapper are seen. Large maori wrasse haunt the
top of the wall. Angelfish of all types flit in and out of coral formations.
There are even anemone colonies of all colours with attendant clownfish,
porcelain crabs and popcorn shrimp.
However the sight to enthrall are
the feeding bronze whaler sharks. They cruise in the current at the point.
The greater the current the more sharks you see……an adrenalin buzz that will
draw you back to enjoy again.
The site begins at 12 metres and drops away dizzily to 50 metres. Level is
from advanced to very experienced depending on current, profile and action.
THE DUNGEON/ so named for it’s
colours and sea life.
This dive begins on a coral wall
bottoming out at 12 metres. Here we can see maori wrasse, turtles, schools
of moorish idols and clown triggerfish. Giant clams live here as do
different types of clownfish. The site deepens on the southern side and
drops into the abyss. Here the wall steepens and curves. Schools of manta
rays have been seen here.
On a bommie at 18 metres live large toadfish, grouper, lionfish and many
cardinal fish. Huge nurse sharks and whitetip sharks are seen here. Eagle
rays cruise the wall. The wall is festooned with whip corals and their
attendant whip gobies, gorgonian fans, soft corals and bright yellow
sponges. Black coral grows here inhabited by long nosed hawkfish. Very large
moray eels are seen here and turtles rest on alcoves in the wall.
The levels for this dive are novice to advanced depending on surge or
profile.
HANGING OUT/ it’s what we all do
here
Drop into deep blue ocean and
swim into a sheer wall with large soft corals and gorgonian fans. Here we
see nurse sharks that lie at depth. As we cruise the wall the depth drops
away to darkness. We come to a right angled curve in the wall and swim over
a sandy bottom where schooling eagle rays can be seen. The down current must
be treated with caution here. We arrive at a bommie circled by white and
black tipped sharks. We can see prolific fish life including turtles who
choose to rest here.
Hang arround the bommie to watch the action before moving on to seek out
painted crayfish and turtles.
This is for advanced divers only.
SCARY DEEP/ it can be!
A sheer wall. Beautiful
gorgonians with chrinoids attached. Large stingrays are seen here. Anemonies
and clownfish live at twenty metres.
The highlight is the cave at thirty five metres. Inhabited by very large
fish. The beautiful golden cowrie has been found here. This is for advanced
divers only.

around the resort. The beautiful white sand beachfront is an ideal location for
a sunset wedding. The picturesque gardens inspire romance and enchantment while
the embracing hills offer magnificent panoramic views of reefs and the turquoise
lagoon. Each ceremony can be as unique as the couple themselves.
The neighbouring Namaqumaqua Village
plays an integral part in the wedding preparations giving the ceremony a
traditional Fijian influence. The floral Leis, bridal headpiece and tropical
bouquets are all handmade by the village and staff at Crusoe’s Retreat.
If you wish the bride can be escorted
to the ceremony by Fijian warriors dressed in traditional Fijian costume. The
