Fiji Sightseeing in the Rainforests of Fiji
Fiji's
rainforests are unique in that they have no harmful animals
or insects. Here one can enjoy serene contemplation of nature in
complete safety. Multi-hued birds flit from the trees, and if
you are lucky you may spot several varieties of Fiji's tiny wild
parrots. While the Fiji rainforest can be thick and
impenetrable, you will find pathways used by the Fijians who know
the jungle as well as you know your own living room.
Because of the mountainous nature of the Fiji islands, there are
numerous streams and waterfalls, often with a cool pond in a rocky
basin beneath the falls. One of the most famous Fijian
waterfall is the sacred Bouma Falls on the Island
of Taveuni, seen by the world in the motion picture "Return
to the Blue Lagoon".
Here you will also find a natural waterslide, also featured in
the movie, where local Fiji residents have enjoyed themselves for
centuries. Fiji has no leeches or crocodiles, and Fijian wild
streams and brooks are crystal clear and unpolluted.

Culture & Historic (attractions)
Fiji is a land of ancient rituals, such as the yaqona ceremony,
which is still enacted as it has been for centuries. Visitors, who
are regarded as honoured guests, are often welcomed to take part in
these solemn occasions. The Fijian culture is based on the
well-being of extended families where the interests of the group are
always regarded as above those of the individual.
Fiji's rich cultural heritage is composed of many diverse elements
which includes the way of life of it's indigenous Fijian people and
others who for the past 190 years have made Fiji their home.
Fiji Dining - Food In Fiji
Dining in Fiji offers a multiethnic culinary
experience. Whether dining at your hotel, island resort or "in
town", you'll find a palate painted by flavours from India, China,
Korea, Japan, Italy and the best of Europe as well as Australia, New
Zealand and the South Pacific waters.
Restaurants run the gamut from five star international to 24-hour
air-conditioned coffee shops. Steaks and local seafood can be found
in most restaurants as can the specialities of our own
Fijian cooking heritage. Most hotels and resorts also offer
specific culinary themed nights, magiti (Fijian
feasts), beach or poolside BBQ's, as well as Fiji's best known
and pervasive outdoor cooking experience-the lovo,
an underground oven of heated rocks cooking a variety of foods
wrapped in banana leaves. covered with earth and coming out after
several hours of cooking with a faintly smoky flavour. Lovos
produce succulent, tender meats, chicken, seafood, and given the
proper occasion, a whole suckling pig!
Stay a week in Fiji and you're sure to come across a lovo followed
by a meke, our colourful evening of traditional
Fijian song and dance by nearby villages or resort island staff
members. Everyone deserves a lovo and meke, and it's a
reward you'll only get in Fiji!
You also shouldn't leave Fiji without having experienced other
traditional Fijian dishes. Kokoda, Fiji's most
popular speciality, is portions of fresh fish marinated in lime
juice and served in a half coconut in lolo - a word that sounds
as sweet as it tastes- made from the sweet cream of the coconut,
a staple in Fijian cooking. Or savour a
palusami, meat wrapped in taro (dalo) leaves and cooked
in lolo.
There
are 333 islands in the Fiji archipelago where you can swim with huge,
harmless manta rays, snorkel over giant rainbow gardens of coral or
scuba dive the White Wall and famous Astrolabe Reef. It is also where
you can float in the calm turquoise waters or walk alone through lush
rainforest. The sun shines almost every day and when there is a brief
downpour people rush outside for a warm rainbath. Fiji is a place where
rushing is rude, a new friends name is not forgotten and people wear
flowers tucked in their hair just because they like to.
